Prasar Bharati requires professionalism and quality, says chairman

Bengaluru: Prasar Bharati chairperson A Suryaprakash feels the country's biggest broadcaster requires more "professionalism and quality", and has to go a long way before achieving complete autonomy.

According to him, Doordarshan had an opportunity to surpass other channels with credibility and responsibility and fashion itself on the lines of the BBC. "Private TV channels have turned from news to noise channels. I feel people are running away from them. Between 8pm and 9pm, people want to calm down and relax. But, private TV channels, including regional channels, create a charged-up and provocative environment,'' Suryaprakash said. However, he admitted there were limitations with Prasar Bharati, which would soon be joining social media.
