Govt committed to press freedom, says Javadekar

PUNE: Union minister for information and broadcasting Prakash Javadekar said the Modi government is committed to ensuring press freedom because the leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party has experienced what censorship of the press was like during the Emergency,

Javadekar said he had been imprisoned for 16 months during the Emergency and could vividly recall the manner in which newspapers faced censorship from the government. "I can assure you that the Modi government will never do that," he said.
