Indian broadcaster Prasar Bharati has announced that it will soon be launching yet another channel under its repertoire. A new channel called Prabha will be launched specifically for Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim states in India.

The CEO of Prasar Bharati, Jawhar Sircar, announced on November 10 to the staff of Doordarshan Kendra that the channel would help promote the culture of North Eastern states. The staff of both Doordarshan and the Air India Radio have been urged to help Prasar Bharati in helping setting up the channel.

In September Prasar Bharati had also announced that it is considering launching three more regional channels that will target Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand states in India. It has also recently launched four other channels for the regional audiences in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The government announced earlier this year, Prasar Bharati will be getting over USD 500 million in funding to expand channels coming under Doordarshan as well as content on All India Radio.
