AIR begins celebrations to mark 75th yr of language services

To mark the 75th year of its newsservice in Telugu, Tamil, Marathi and Gujarati languages, the News Services Division of All India Radio on Tuesday launched year-long celebrations.

The AIR also honoured 14 veteran broadcasters.

AIR officials said it was on October 1, 1939, when the four language units started transmitting news in the wake of World War II. Before this, All India Radio used to transmit news in English, Hindustani and Bengali.
