Ludhiana to get new radio channel

LUDHIANA: Like the four metros, the city will also have its own FM radio channel to be run by public broadcaster Prasar Bharati. The FM Gold radio channel will be heard at 100.1 frequency. For now, it will be handled by All India Radio (AIR), Jalandhar.

Union minister for information and broadcasting Manish Tewari will launch the radio station on August 16. As the city awaits the inauguration of the first ever FM station in Punjab, TOI speaks to officials for insights.

Information and broadcasting minister Manish Tiwari said it was essential for Ludhiana to have such a channel. "It is surprising that Ludhiana does not have its own FM channel. For now it's a relay effort and we are looking forward to it. We are laying the building blocks and the decisions that follow would be totally dependent on the popularity it receives.
