Making Doordarshan work

he Competition Commission of India has asked TAM Media Research to submit an investigative report on its system. This comes after a complaint by Prasar Bharati in 2012 that alleged TAM indulged in abuse of its dominant position and unfair trade practice in determining the television audience. In media reports yesterday, the CEO of TAM, L V Krishnan, was quoted as saying that the firm would co-operate fully and submit its report. He went on to say that TAM would be happy to cover rural markets, as Doordarshan wants - but someone would have to fund it. Last year NDTV had filed a suit in New York against TAM for corrupt data. The suit was dismissed on the grounds that it could be best dealt within India. 

This, however, is not about TAM or NDTV or even ratings. It is about media policy and our priorities.
